Vocabulary Acquisition in Multimedia Environment at Azzytuna University Classrooms

Abstract

The aim of this study is to understand the perception of Libyan lecturers and students of multimedia implementation in English classrooms also aims to examine the availability of multimedia resources that determine the real opportunity to integrate this technique in curriculum. The study presents a literature review on the importance of vocabulary and its relation to other skills. Moreover, it presents a review on multimedia as a teaching tool and its advantages in the educational process. For data collection, two approaches were used. Questionnaire and classroom observations were conducted as two research instruments. The sample of the study consisted of 60 students and 24 lecturers who were randomly selected to answer the questionnaire. Moreover, nine lectures from three departments of English at Azzaytuna University were selected for observation. The findings of the study showed that classrooms of English were not provided with multimedia resources, so it is difficult to integrate multimedia in curriculum in current time. The study also revealed that both teachers and students have positive attitudes towards multimedia implementation in classrooms of English. According to the results, the researcher recommends to provide classrooms of English with modern technological recourses, in order to enable the teachers to include multimedia in their lessons to enhance the teaching and learning process
